This summer, families are invited to step into the conductor’s seat during Junior Engineer Days at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot, a cherished seasonal tradition that rolls into the station once again with new features and timeless fun. Held every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., from June 5 through August 7, Junior Engineer Days invite children ages 2 to 10 to take part in themed crafts, enjoy a snack, and participate in rotating weekly activities like sing-alongs or story time. The program is come-and-go between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., making it easy for families to drop in when it works best for them. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore the historic depot, spend time with friends, and enjoy creative, engaging play. New this year, the Railroad Depot will feature permanent train-themed activity stations all summer long, available during regular operating hours: Thursday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These stations include toy trains, puzzles, games, and books—offering a great indoor option for families looking to beat the heat and enjoy hands-on fun together. Located at 101 Old Tyler Road, the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot is more than a fun place for children—it’s a historic landmark. Originally constructed by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the building served as a key transportation hub that contributed to the economic growth of East Texas. Today, it welcomes visitors as an educational site celebrating the region’s railroad history. Admission is free, and all activities, snacks, and craft supplies are provided at no cost while supplies last. Large groups (10 or more) are encouraged to schedule their visit in advance by emailing historicsites@nactx.us or calling (936) 560-4441. Come discover the magic of trains, make new friends, and enjoy a morning of creativity and community at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot!
