Film Festival Committee free screening

The Cole Art Center is hosting a special film screening tomorrow night in conjunction with the Nacogdoches Film Festival and Texas Independent Film Network.  See their press release below.  This screening is free to the public and begins at 7:00 p.m. 

 

 

FILM FESTIVAL COMMITTEE KICKS OFF FALL SERIES

The Nacogdoches Film Festival is presenting the first offering in Texas Independent Film Network’s traveling film series on Friday, October 18 with “Only the Young.”

“The film is being shown through our relationship with the Austin Film Society & TIFN”, says lead organizer, Ron Johnson. “We have worked with the Society for about two years and our relationship has provided film students and our community a rare opportunity to see new Texas-made films and meet the filmmakers,' he adds.

 

“Only the Young” is a film by Jason Tippet and Elizabeth Mims. The film takes place in a small desert town and profiles young people attempting to not deal with the onslaught of adult responsibilities that are coming on quickly. The film encapsulates the best of documentary film with its sincerity but is shot with a beautiful still aesthetic of a narrative film. This coming of age documentary is scored with soul music which makes it unlike any other documentary film. Collaboration for this film began two years ago at the Sundance Film Festival 2010 where the filmmakers screened their first award winning documentary “Thompson”. Both filmmakers are graduates of CalArts. Mims is a native of Austin. “Only the Young” was awarded the Silverdocs Sterling Award for Best U.S. Feature. The film was selected to screen as a sneak preview at the TRUE/FALSE 2012 film festival. Additionally, it screened at Hot Docs, San Francisco International Film Festival, New York Rooftop Summer Series, Melbourne International and RDIM.

Director Elizabeth Mims will conduct a workshop for SFA Film School students on Friday, October 18 and will be available for a Q&A after the screening at the Cole Art Center at 7PM that evening.
