Drinks will be available at the meeting.\n\n\n\nHistorically Underutilized Business (HUB) is a program that assists minority-and women-owned businesses tap into the state's contracts and services.\n\n\n\nWho qualifies to be a Historically Underutilized Business?\n\nAn applicant owner must provide proof of 51 percent ownership and control of the day to day operation of the business. The owner must be an economically disadvantaged person meeting eligibility as a(n):\n\nAsian Pacific American\,\n\nBlack American\,\n\nHispanic American\,\n\nNative American\,\n\nAmerican woman\, and/or\n\nService-Disabled Veteran with a service-related disability of 20% or greater.\n\n\n\nThe applicant/owner must:\n\nbe a U.S. Citizen\,\n\nprove at least one year of Texas residency\,\n\nprove control of the day to day operations\, and\n\nhold company title equivalent to ownership and control requirements.\n\n\n\nThe applicant business must:\n\nbe primarily based in Texas\,\n\nprove its principal place of business is in Texas\, and\n\nbe a for-profit entity that has not exceeded the size standard prescribed by 34 TAC  20.294.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the speaker:\n\nMariah Thompson-Carter started her journey with the Texas Comptroller's office in 2022. Since joining the Statewide Procurement Division\, she has left her imprint in many resourceful programs and recently joined the Statewide HUB Program as the Marketing Coordinator. You will see her at conferences or expo booths with a big smile on her face promoting the Statewide HUB certification. \n\n\n\nPrior to her current role\, Mariah showcased her customer service skills in retail and aviation for 13 years. While working for the number one athletic retailer\, she successfully led multiple stores in her market and won multiple Sales Leadership awards and reached record-breaking sales goals and budgets. \n\n \n\nAfter gaining extensive experience in the retail industry\, she made a deliberate shift to apply her customer service skills in the field of aviation. She joined a private airport where she assisted pilots and catered to elite clientele\, while also acquiring in-depth knowledge about the airline industry. These experiences not only honed her customer service skills but also made her comfortable with interacting and connecting with new people. \n\n \n\nOutside of work\, she spends time with her husband and three sons ages 16\, 12\, and 10 months. Being a "boy mom" keeps her busy with practices\, games\, and different school events. She enjoys music\, art\, nature\, spending time with her extended family\, and a little quality time to herself.
